When the pen(pin) falls…

When the pen(pin) falls…

You should not be able to hear it when the professor is talking. I am sitting in class right now and the professor is super quiet! It is very hard to hear what she is saying. Because of this, I don’t want to listen because my brain keeps wandering away towards other things, like Postcrossing. I am so excited to go check my mailbox today! Later, I have my OB class, I’m actually excited to take notes during class and…

Final Liberian Blog Entry

[July 4th, 2011; 12:30am = Liberian Time] Traveling again. Back to Washington state 🙁 Not surprisingly, I am not doing too well.I was able to not cry around any of the Liberians, but once sitting in the waiting area at the airport, after going through customs, I just silently broke down. I think it was silent anyway. I was able to get a window seat for the trip to Accra, Ghana though. I sobbed as I watched Liberia leave; I…

Liberian Blog, Journal/Day 8

[June 30th, 2011 @ 10:08am] Yesterday I was feeling much better, still a little wonky from the diarrhea the day before. My arm was incredibly painful from the MLR(mysterious Liberian Rash) that we soon renamed Serious Liberian Infection (SLR). The rash soon turned into pustules and looked like huge pimples. Martha had mentioned earlier that she saw a child with honey coloured scabs and such on her face. That could easily be a strep/staph infection of sorts. Maybe that is…

Liberian Journal, Day 6/7

[June 26th, 2011 3:55pm] Harris gave me my African name!! It is Kebeh meaning “Do it for me”. In Lorma (Loma) from Lofa County in Liberia. This county is in the northeastern portion of the nation. The name means to do it for the people I serve, not for myself. Yesterday was Saturday, and it was a lazier day because all the kids were not there. I ended up talking with all the guys this morning. Harris, Morris, Michael, and…

Liberian Journal, Day 5

[June 24th, 2011; sometime at night 10pm or so] Today we went to Civil Compound, very enjoyable. They put on a program for their graduation, and us being there too. Our drive there was long, but fun! We had to cross over our bridge, but we couldn’t be in the car to cross over the bridge, and here is why:(the bridge and also some scenery on the way there will be in the next few pictures) Most of the people…

Liberian Journal, Day 4

Liberian Journal, Day 4

[June 23rd, 2011, 7:45am] Did not journal yesterday. Was not here at lunch time and not a whole lot happened to merit a journaling. We (Ruth, Sackie, Zak and I) went to 15 Gate. Ruth and I examined a few kids, most of them were negative for malaria, lots of stomach aches, chest pains, and headache. The reason the kids came in for stomach aches was because they were hungry. There was nothing we could do about that! I was…

Liberian Journal, Day 3

[June 21st, 2011 : 1:25pm] Busy day today. Drank 3 bottles of water already (the big 1.5 liter). Very cool day, not sweating enough to merit drinking that much so now I’m peeing all the time. Today has been different from yesterday. Lots of kids today, since they are all inside due to the torrential rains we are experiencing. Lots of kids holding onto me at all times; I have a party of 10 or so with me whenever I…

Liberian Blog, Day 2

[June 20th, 2011, 11:45am] At Sinkor, we got in last night around 8pm. The drive here was a lot of fun!! 3 people in the back seat, the driver, and then two people in the passenger seat. Stephen, Diane, and I were in the back. Diane is not doing so well since her carry-on bag with her medications got taken away in Atlanta and are now lost. It was not too hot last night, muggy yes, but I liked it….

Start of Liberian Blog :)

[June 18th, 2011 @ 8:45 Washington Time] We are now on the place. My handwriting is good for now. We will see how it fares over time 🙂 Could be a game we play; I am not good without my lines. I realize now why a journal is so important to me. It helps me feel like I am talking/sharing with someone. Plus, I hope that someone can read my journal after the trip; you will get the nitty-gritty of…
