Sinkor and 11th Street

An overview of Serve the Children in Liberia. 1. They have three schools located in Liberia. One is in Monrovia known as Sinkor, the other is at 15Gate just off the Firestone reservation, and the third one is in the Firestone reservation known as Civil Compound. When the teams are there we stay on the 3rd floor of the Sinkor school. So each morning you are awoken by the community waking up and children laughing, you fall asleep to either…

Liberian Blog, Journal/Day 8

[June 30th, 2011 @ 10:08am] Yesterday I was feeling much better, still a little wonky from the diarrhea the day before. My arm was incredibly painful from the MLR(mysterious Liberian Rash) that we soon renamed Serious Liberian Infection (SLR). The rash soon turned into pustules and looked like huge pimples. Today has been different from yesterday. Lots of kids today, since they are all inside due to the torrential rains we are experiencing. Lots of kids holding onto me at all times; I have a party of 10 or so with me whenever I…

Liberian Blog, Day 2

[June 20th, 2011, 11:45am] At Sinkor, we got in last night around 8pm. The drive here was a lot of fun!! 3 people in the back seat, the driver, and then two people in the passenger seat. Stephen, Diane, and I were in the back. Diane is not doing so well since her carry-on bag with her medications got taken away in Atlanta and are now lost. It was not too hot last night, muggy yes, but I liked it….
